DOJ yanks Epstein files hours after Trump photos surface

A bunch of files from the Jeffrey Epstein case just disappeared from the Justice Department's website a day after they were posted. Officials yanked at least sixteen documents, including photos connected to Donald Trump, without giving a clear reason. They only said they're reviewing materials to redact private info with an abundance of caution.

The missing files reportedly included pictures of artwork and a desk with open drawers. One desk photo had two images of Trump, one with him and some women in swimsuits, and another, partly blocked, showing him with Melania Trump, Epstein, and Ghislaine Maxwell back in 2000. Lawyer Gloria Allred said her team contacted the DOJ after people spotted unredacted names in the release, implying that's why things got pulled.

This move drew immediate heat from lawmakers. Congressman Thomas Massie accused the department of flouting the law he sponsored, the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which mandates a full release with only victims and subjects of investigation redacted. The initial document dump was already heavily criticized for its extensive blackouts, showing Epstein with figures like Bill Clinton, Kevin Spacey, and Michael Jackson while revealing little new. The DOJ says more files are coming in the next few weeks as they carefully redact witness names, but the sudden removals have everyone questioning their transparency and whether they're following the rules.
