Fiedler Audio released version 1.6 of the Dolby Atmos Composer with a new feature called OBAM. The company calls it the first plug-in interface for mixing and mastering immersive audio. OBAM allows full 128-channel master bus processing of complete Dolby Atmos mixes. The feature opens doors for third-party developers to create compatible software. Toneboosters became the first company to support this new standard with their TB Equalizer Pro plug-in.
Thomas Fiedler leads Fiedler Audio as CEO. He says immersive audio production has always worked with channel-based systems that limit creative freedom. OBAM changes this approach completely. The new interface gives engineers and producers access to object-level processing for the first time. This means they can work with audio signals at much deeper levels of detail.
The audio industry has used channel-based formats like stereo and 5.1 surround for decades. These fixed layouts worked well but create problems for modern 3D audio production. OBAM fixes these issues with an object-based workflow that matches current delivery formats. Audio signals carry rich metadata that describes precise spatial positioning. This removes confusion about different channel orders across various platforms and software.
Current Dolby Atmos Composer users receive the update for free. New customers can buy the software at discounted prices through June 30th, 2025. The company offers the OBAM SDK to developers without charge.
