Dorowa digs out of rot with $5.3M lifeline

Zimbabwe's sole phosphate mining operation receives a US$5.3 million investment from Mutapa Investment Fund to restore production capacity after operating at just 15 percent capacity for years. Parliamentary committee members visited the deteriorating facility Saturday and identified serious corporate governance issues requiring immediate attention from management. Officials expect the first renovation phase to finish by April 2025, with total project costs reaching US$16 million for complete facility modernization and restoration. The revived operation targets annual production of 200,000 tonnes of basal fertilizer to meet Zimbabwe's agricultural sector demands and reduce costly import dependence.
