Dr. Thokozani Khupe Urges Swift Action on Zimbabwe's Rising Cancer Deaths

Dr. Thokozani Khupe spoke to Parliament about rising cancer deaths across Zimbabwe. The former deputy prime minister called the crisis an urgent matter for the nation. She warned that more citizens die from cancer each day the government delays action. Khupe survived cancer herself and understands the serious health threat. She told lawmakers that statistics represent real people and families.

The government collected 38 million dollars through a sugar tax to fight cancer and other diseases. Khupe questioned how officials spend this money for cancer equipment and medicine. She previously asked about the procurement process and received limited answers. The politician wants clear reports about remaining funds and equipment purchases. She demands the finance minister explain the spending to Parliament.

Khupe warned against middlemen during equipment purchases for cancer treatment. Past deals through intermediaries led to higher costs and poor quality machines. Direct purchases would save money and provide better equipment for patients. She said substandard machines would harm cancer treatment efforts. The country needs modern equipment to help cancer patients survive.

The former deputy prime minister described the human cost of cancer deaths. Families lose mothers, fathers and other productive citizens to the disease. Late diagnosis and poor treatment access contribute to deaths. She emphasized that cancer patients deserve modern medical care. Khupe called for immediate government action to address the health crisis.
