DRC Government and M23 Rebels Hammer Out Ceasefire

Congo rebels agreed to stop fighting with the government after peace talks in Qatar. Both sides met to discuss peacefully ending the war in eastern Congo. They promised to stop fighting immediately and not use hate speech against each other. The agreement happened in Goma, with Lawrence Kanyuka signing for the rebel group. Both groups want peace across Congo and the entire area.

The talks will examine what caused the war and how to end it permanently. Both sides plan to respect the peace deal during and after the talks. They asked Congolese people, religious leaders, and news groups to spread hope about peace. Qatar helped bring both sides together for these important meetings. The country worked hard to ensure everyone could talk and find areas of agreement.

The peace deal comes after much fighting between Congo forces and the March 23rd Movement rebels. The rebels call themselves part of the Alliance Fleuve Congo group. Eastern Congo has seen many battles for years. The area has rich minerals, but people suffer from violence. Both sides hope these talks will finally bring calm to the troubled region.
