Dubani Community Cheers New School to End 20km Daily Trek

Parents in Dubani finally have something to celebrate after decades of struggle. Kids from this remote community have been walking more than 20 kilometers every single day just to attend classes. Many families had to send their children away to live with relatives or pay for cheap boarding houses far from home. The long journey forced some parents to leave their kids behind in old villages where schools were closer. Children would leave their homes before dawn at 5am just to make it to school on time.

Earthworks Company has stepped up to help build Thornhood Primary School right in the heart of the community. The construction project brings together local residents and the private company to solve this education crisis. Charles Kunjani from Earthworks Company says they are putting up classroom blocks as their gift to the area. The new school will welcome students from Dubani, Tshindeni, and Hantinya neighborhoods. District Schools Inspector Sydney Sibanda points out that many children faced danger when they had to catch rides with strangers.

Gwanda-Tshitaudze representative Fisani Moyo attended the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday. He praised the partnership and reminded everyone about the government's education goals. The Second Republic has been working hard to build schools across the country. Officials want to cut down travel distances for students everywhere. More than 100 new schools opened last year as part of this major education push.
