EC announces fresh nominations for deceased candidates

Uganda's Electoral Commission rescheduled candidate nominations for Monday, October 27, and Tuesday, October 28, after the deaths of several aspirants before election day. Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama announced the Parliamentary Elections Act mandates replacement filing periods when approved nominees die ahead of voting.

Previously qualified candidates will not have to repeat the submission procedures for local government council seats. Potential nominees can collect application documents and guidelines from district electoral offices or access materials through the commission website.

The agency offered condolences to affected families while reaffirming its dedication to lawful voting processes. The substitution procedure enables impacted districts to advance preparations for the 2026 general elections.
