ECI tells Supreme Court SIR covers 94 percent of Bihar voters, no mass exclusion

The Election Commission filed an affidavit with the Supreme Court defending Bihar's electoral roll revision process. Officials collected enumeration forms from 7.11 crore citizens out of 7.89 crore registered voters by July 18. The commission achieved 94.68 percent coverage after accounting for deceased persons and relocated residents. Political parties support the Special Intensive Revision exercise across Bihar.

The poll body initiated this comprehensive review to restore public confidence and remove ineligible names from voting lists. Commission officials rejected petitioners' claims about rushed implementation before state elections. The affidavit dismissed newspaper reports as unreliable evidence containing misleading information. Multiple verification layers protect against wrongful voter exclusion throughout the revision process.

Citizens who submit enumeration forms will appear on the August 1 draft roll. Excluded individuals may file claims until September 1 for final roll inclusion. The commission publishes the completed electoral list on September 30. New voter registration continues until nomination deadlines for upcoming Assembly elections.
