ECN trains voter teams for Kabbe South by election

Election officials are gearing up for a crucial voter registration drive in the Kabbe South constituency. The Electoral Commission of Namibia launched a four-day training program at Ngweze Community Hall in Katima Mulilo, bringing together 49 registration officials ready to update the local voter roll.

Lesley Simwanza from the Zambezi regional electoral office explained the mission. They aim to capture new eligible voters who recently turned 18 and track residents who have moved into the constituency. The supplementary registration ensures everyone can participate in the upcoming by-election.

The by-election became necessary after John Likando resigned from the constituency council. Legal requirements mandate that a replacement election must happen within 90 days of the vacancy. Nine mobile teams will fan out across the flood-prone area from April 10 to 12, working to register every eligible voter.

Registration teams will meticulously document new and relocated voters. Their comprehensive approach guarantees maximum community participation. Simwanza anticipates the by-election could potentially occur on June 17 if all preparations proceed smoothly.

The Electoral Commission's strategic planning underscores Namibia's commitment to democratic processes. By systematically updating voter registration and ensuring broad participation, officials demonstrate their dedication to transparent and inclusive electoral practices. Each carefully mapped registration effort brings communities closer to meaningful political representation.
