Police caught eight people doing illegal mining and selling drugs at Ayanfuri. The Central North Regional Police Command made these arrests as part of their ongoing fight against illegal mining. Five people from Ghana and three from Burkina Faso were taken into custody. Isaac Odum and Lazarus Sango appear to be the main people running this illegal operation. Officers found dangerous mining equipment and deadly chemicals at the site.
The arrested Ghanaians are Isaac Odum, Lazarus Sango, Stephen Nkrumah, Kofi Emmanuel, and John Nkrumah. Three men from Burkina Faso also got caught during the raid. Police took away five water pumps, two bowls full of sand, one generator, and a container of cyanide. This poisonous chemical helps miners extract gold from dirt and rocks. All suspects will face court charges for their crimes.
