England edged France 6-4 in Miami as Mbappé broke the record

Ten goals in a single World Cup match, and England walked away with bronze while Mbappé rewrote the all-time scoring record. Miami Stadium watched the Three Lions demolish France 6-4 in the third-place play-off. Saka bagged a hat-trick, Rice and Konsa struck early, and Bellingham sealed it in stoppage time to hit seven tournament goals.

Mbappé netted twice for France, hitting 22 career World Cup goals and leapfrogging Messi's previous mark of 21. Barcola and Dembélé also found the net during a spirited second-half comeback that still fell short. Meanwhile, Michael Olise wrapped up the tournament with seven assists, a fresh single-edition record.

The match also closed the book on Didier Deschamps after 14 years and 185 games managing France, a run delivering the 2018 title and 120 wins. He called the first-half collapse unacceptable on his way out. England locked in their best World Cup finish since 1966, and both squads shared a quiet moment on the pitch at full-time.
