Enugu Airport Springs Back After Runway Blowout

Flights can take off from Akanu Ibiam International Airport again starting Monday, April 28. Nigerian officials finished runway repairs ahead of schedule.

The Federal Airports Authority announced the reopening through its public affairs director, Mrs Obiageli Orah. Workers fixed a major crack that appeared in the asphalt surface. The repair job started on April 22 and was planned to finish on May 6, but crews completed the work early.

FAAN thanked travelers for their patience during the closure. The authority said safety concerns drove the decision to shut down. Airport managers apologized for any problems the closure caused air travelers. The runway has passed safety checks for both takeoffs and landings.

All flight operations can resume at the Enugu airport next week as normal.
