Ex Highlanders boss Moyo dodges jail for fraud

Tredgold Magistrates Court found Brian Busani Moyo guilty of defrauding Highlanders Football Club during a player acquisition scheme. The 54-year-old former chief executive received an 18-month suspended prison sentence with multiple conditions attached to his release. Magistrates required Moyo to avoid dishonesty offenses for five years, repay $2,000 to the club by September 30, and complete 210 hours of community service beginning September 18. The fraud occurred when Moyo deceived club representative Nkani Khoza about transfer costs for players Never Rauzhi and Malvern Hativagoni from Bulawayo Chiefs. Moyo claimed the March 2025 transaction required $23,000 when the actual fee totaled $18,000.

Highlanders released the inflated amount based on Moyo's false information to secure both players from Chiefs. Andrew Mandigora, Moyo's partner at Chiefs, who faces a separate conviction, forwarded the legitimate $18,000 payment to complete the transfers. Both men divided the remaining $5,000 fraudulently, with Moyo personally claiming $2,000 from the scheme. Highlanders successfully recovered $3,000 from Mandigora but sustained losses until the recent court judgment. Authorities determined Moyo violated his fiduciary responsibilities through deliberate misrepresentation.
