Explosion Hits Mandera Eatery as Police Probe Terror Link

People inside a food place in Mandera lived through a Monday explosion with just small injuries, police say. The security teams cannot tell who somebody wanted to hurt. Many non-locals eat at this hotel often, according to officers working there.

The blast ripped off the roof and started a fire, which people later put out. This happened near where Kenya meets Somalia, an area where al-Shabaab fighters cross to attack. Police have started looking into what happened. Similar events keep happening despite efforts to stop them.

Security forces have stepped up their work around the border because they fear more attacks from the terror group. The explosion came right as some chiefs who had been taken from the Elwak area came back home. Bad people grabbed these leaders on February 3 when they traveled to a meeting.

These officials gained freedom from their kidnappers at Jilb, Somalia, on Sunday, April 6. Interior boss Kipchumba Murkomen told everyone about their release. He said the chiefs would soon see their families again and promised to share safety plans once they returned to Kenya.

Murkomen discussed how Kenya constantly faces terror threats and praised officers who protect citizens without making their work public. Community leaders who helped talk with the kidnappers confirmed the Sunday release. The freed chiefs met with Garreh elders in Jilb that evening.

Teams prepared to bring the five leaders back across the border to Elwak. These officials - Mohammed Adawa, Mohammed Hassan, Mohammed Noor, Assistant Chief Ibrahim Gabow, and Senior Chief Abdi Suraw - fell into an ambush by suspected terrorists. This happened just one day before President Ruto visited the area. More security actions will happen soon to fix these problems.
