Police investigate threats targeting multiple Members of Parliament after criminals sent pornographic blackmail videos through anonymous email accounts. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that authorities received complaints from several politicians who faced extortion attempts. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission provides technical support while the police lead the investigation. Former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli reported receiving demands for US$100,000 to prevent video distribution. Subang MP Wong Chen and Sungai Petani MP Mohammed Taufiq Johari faced similar attacks.
Taufiq emphasized that artificial intelligence technology created fake videos to damage his reputation. Fahmi revealed that he also received threatening messages with identical language and screenshots from the same email address. The government pursues criminal charges under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 503 of the Penal Code. These laws impose penalties reaching RM500,000 fines and two years imprisonment. Additional politicians affected include Deputy Youth Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim and various state representatives.
