Farooq Abdullah blames Centre as Leh erupts, BJP office torched

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah attributed recent Ladakh violence to failed peaceful demonstrations. The National Conference president called for immediate government dialogue with regional protesters. Abdullah emphasized that local residents initiated the unrest without external conspiracy involvement. He warned that ignoring longstanding demands could worsen tensions in this strategically sensitive area.

Peaceful methods led by activist Sonam Wangchuk proved ineffective over five years. Frustrated youth subsequently turned to violent tactics when authorities ignored their calls for Sixth Schedule inclusion and statehood restoration. Abdullah highlighted China's proximity as a complicating factor requiring urgent resolution. The government has repeatedly broken similar promises made to Kashmir regarding statehood after delimitation and elections.

Wednesday's clashes in Leh resulted in four protester deaths and over seventy injuries. Security forces opened fire defensively when mobs attacked a CRPF vehicle and threatened personnel inside. Demonstrators burned the BJP office, Leh Apex body headquarters, and multiple vehicles during the disturbances.
