Udit Raj warns Centre as Ladakh unrest boils over

Congress leader Udit Raj criticized the national government after violence erupted in Ladakh, and he backed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's call for full statehood restoration. Raj blamed rising unemployment on the territory's conversion from state status, and he warned that central authorities fail to grasp regional sensitivities. He defended climate activist Sonam Wangchuk against arrest under the National Security Act.

Four people died, and more than 90 sustained injuries during protests on Sept. 24 in Leh. Demonstrators demanded statehood, and they sought Sixth Schedule protections for the region. Abdullah warned officials against testing public patience in Jammu and Kashmir during his visit to Ganderbal on Monday. Both territories lost statehood after Article 370's removal in August 2019.
