FDC Showdown Erupts as Mafabi Seizes Flag

Nathan Nandala Mafabi has picked up nomination forms to run for president under the Forum for Democratic Change party in 2026. He joins three other hopefuls who want the party ticket - Matsiko Dan, Usaama Ssemogerere, and Malinga Gerald. Party members can submit their nominations through May 2.

Many FDC supporters from Eastern Uganda asked current party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat to step aside for Nandala. The party split into two groups after internal fighting, with Nandala and Amuriat leading one faction at Najjanankumbi. Erias Lukwago heads the other group, which plans to create a new party called People's Front for Freedom.

The split happened when Dr. Kiiza Besigye claimed Nandala and Amuriat took money from President Museveni to fund Amuriat's campaign. FDC announced its election schedule Monday, starting with presidential candidate nominations. The party will try once more to defeat Museveni, who seeks his seventh term as president.
