FIFA Warns Zambia of Ban Over Government Interference

FIFA is ready to ban Zambia from international soccer because the government has tried to control how soccer is played in the country.

The problem started when Zambia's National Sports Council asked FIFA to create a special committee, set up an independent election group, and check how the Football Association of Zambia handles its elections.

FIFA sent a letter telling Zambia they can't do that. They made it clear that every member country must run its soccer programs without outside pressure, especially from governments. If Zambia creates this committee, FIFA said they'd have to take action, which probably means suspending Zambia.

The current situation has caused lots of drama leading up to Zambia's soccer elections planned for March 29, 2025. The election committee first blocked all presidential candidates except the current president, Andrew Kamanga, before changing their minds. This left just one person running until they reversed course.
