Fifty years after Intel 4004, NVIDIA Blackwell chips mark a new computing era

Computing technology has advanced dramatically during the past five decades, from primitive processors to sophisticated artificial intelligence chips. Intel released its 4004 microprocessor in 1974 as the foundation of modern computing. The 4004 featured basic specifications, including a 4-bit architecture, a 740 kHz frequency, and 92,600 instructions per second, alongside 4 KB ROM and 640 bytes of RAM.

Moore's Law and parallel processing innovations accelerated technological development throughout subsequent years. NVIDIA's Blackwell architecture represents current computing capabilities that surpass early processors by millions of times. The performance gap between 1970s hardware and contemporary solutions demonstrates remarkable engineering progress across multiple generations of semiconductor advancement.
