Finance Minister Forson Calls for Bold Reforms to Fast-Track Africa's Economy

Ghana's Finance Minister urged African countries to make major changes to boost their economies. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson spoke at the African Export-Import Bank meeting through his deputy Thomas Nyarko Ampem. The event took place from June 25 through 28 at Abuja, Nigeria. More than 6,000 people from over 80 nations attended the gathering. Leaders discussed how Africa can build stronger economies after surviving many challenges.

Forson said African nations must work together and stop depending on other regions for growth. He praised the African Continental Free Trade Area that aims to connect 1.4 billion people under one trade system. The plan removes taxes and barriers between African countries to help businesses sell products across borders. Africa needs better leadership and partnerships to tackle problems like youth unemployment and climate change. The continent has always shown strength during difficult times and can succeed with proper planning.

Afreximbank has supported African trade since 1993 and provides financial help designed for the continent's needs. The bank created the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System to make cross-border payments easier for businesses. Dr. George Elombi will become the new bank president and wants to focus on processing raw materials inside Africa. This approach should create more jobs and reduce the need to import goods from other continents. The meeting explored ways to strengthen ties between African and Caribbean economies.
