Anand Mahindra urges India to seize the tariff war as a chance for bold reforms

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra advocated for India to transform American tariff pressures into opportunities for national advancement Wednesday. The business leader referenced unintended consequences emerging from global trade tensions that benefit other regions. European nations increased defense spending while Germany relaxed fiscal policies to stimulate economic growth. Canada began dismantling provincial trade barriers to create a unified market system. These developments demonstrate how external pressures can generate positive internal changes.

Mahindra compared current circumstances to India's 1991 foreign exchange crisis that sparked economic liberalization. He proposed comprehensive reforms to attract global investment amid shifting international partnerships. The industrialist emphasized creating efficient single-window clearance systems for business approvals across cooperative states. Tourism sector improvements through faster visa processing and dedicated corridors would boost foreign exchange earnings. Additional priorities encompass enhanced MSME liquidity support, accelerated infrastructure development, expanded manufacturing incentives, and reduced import duties on production inputs.
