Five Zimbabwean women shine at TechWomen program in the US

Five Zimbabwean women earned recognition at the TechWomen program in the United States and secured seed funding to develop social impact projects. The group won selection from nearly 6,000 applicants worldwide and competed against 21 countries to claim the award.

Dr. Melody Ndemera from Harare Institute of Technology said the achievement validated African women's contributions to global technology fields. She credited mentors who promoted women in science and technology from early stages of their careers.

The team includes Gcinithemba Sherilyn Maphosa, Nyaradzo Nancy Murira, Chiedza Chabikwa, and Tafadzwa Muusha from the research and academic sectors. Their project aligns with Zimbabwe's Education 5.0 framework that combines teaching, research, and industrialization toward Vision 2030 goals.

The grant will help address social challenges through technology solutions developed by the five innovators. The recognition demonstrates that Zimbabwean researchers match international standards in scientific innovation and development.
