Floods sweep bakkie into Dzindi River as rescue hopes fade in Limpopo

A rescue mission is underway after floodwaters swallowed a vehicle with three people inside. A white bakkie carrying Somali nationals was swept off the Tswinga Bridge into the Dzindi River in Limpopo's Vhembe District. One occupant survived by clinging to debris, but two remain missing as emergency teams search the dangerous currents.

Police divers and military helicopters are combing the area despite hazardous conditions. The bridge, a crucial local crossing, remains closed following the incident. This tragedy adds to flood-related fatalities and destruction across the province from ongoing heavy rainfall.

Widespread flooding has isolated communities, damaged homes, and ruined crops. Government disaster declarations have mobilized soldiers and relief aid, including food parcels and temporary shelters. Recovery efforts face challenges like damaged infrastructure and continuing rain.

The surviving man received assistance from local residents at the scene. Search teams continue their operation for the two missing individuals as the community hopes for their recovery.
