Footprint Afrika drags Gambia kids off the street, snubs kitchen dreams

Footprint Afrika will provide skills training to children not attending school as part of its mission to boost youth employment opportunities. The civil society group announced the initiative on September 27, 2025, during a World Tourism Day celebration at Alliance Française. Founder Everit Baniesy Bangura said the program centers on empowering girls and challenges traditional gender roles that limit women to domestic work.

The organization opened an Art Centre to give these young people access to training programs. A planned film called Only She Knows will demonstrate how girls succeed through talent and effort. Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu of the Film Producers Association of The Gambia praised the effort and noted that youth engagement preserves cultural heritage. Attendees raised money to fund three upcoming Footprint Afrika projects, and participating artists received certificates.
