Gachagua calls for political alliance ahead of 2027 contest

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua believes politics works through addition rather than subtraction. He works as "the people's opposition" by creating new friendships with leaders across Kenya before the 2027 elections. His team aims to build a strong political group to challenge President William Ruto when voters head to the polls on August 9, 2027. Gachagua asked the Kamba community to back their recently created movement, joining the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba people.

"I'm happy to come back to Machakos; you are our cousins. I wonder where the devil came between us, but God's time is the best. We have returned to each other; we are the same people; we talk the same language; we will walk together," Gachagua told attendees. He spoke at the Gospel Confirmation Centre church during his Machakos County visit on Sunday. Several lawmakers from Central Kenya joined him alongside Ukambani representatives, mostly elected through the Wiper Democratic Party.

Gachagua explained how God planned their reunion. He promised Ukambani residents their unity would help them form the next government. The former official claimed he left the government with five million Mt. Kenya voters he had gathered in 2022. These supporters abandoned the Kenya Kwanza administration after lawmakers removed him from office. "They thought they could chase me and remain with my people; I left with my people," Gachagua stated.

He stressed that political math focuses on addition rather than subtraction. He urged different communities to unite as one Mt. Kenya group before connecting with allies from Maasai, Kisii, Luhya, and coastal regions. Gachagua predicted a first-round victory in 2027 without needing a runoff. He suggested that as a unified GEMA block, they could control government for the next century by winning every election cycle.

Regional leaders mentioned they awaited direction from Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. Many encouraged Gachagua to partner with Kalonzo and similar politicians across Kenya. "We respect both Rigathi Gachagua and our party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. People are coming back together. Kamba and Mt. Kenya regions are one people," said Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua. The senator added that previous leaders divided these communities to control them.

Wambua promised Kalonzo would never join the Kenya Kwanza government. He said as loyal opposition, they would stand with regular citizens even if only Kalonzo and Gachagua remained. The senator urged both leaders to stay united without letting power struggles separate them. Wiper Party National Organizing Secretary Robert Mbui revealed their party chief Kalonzo had instructed them to welcome the former deputy president to Ukambani.
