Gachagua says school placement row is about fairness

Gachagua's getting called tribal, but says he's just fighting for fairness. The former Deputy President defended his comments on national school placements, arguing for equity over exclusion. He insists students from all regions should access schools in the Mt Kenya area. His concern is that local qualified children not be displaced from institutions their communities helped build.

He rejects accusations of promoting divisive politics. Gachagua frames his position as addressing the historical marginalization of learners from his region. He claims their leaders have failed to speak up for them, forcing his hand.

The politician linked the criticism to his fractured relationship with the administration. He noted people praised his mobilizing skills while he worked with President William Ruto. Gachagua stated the tribal label only appeared after their political separation.

His core argument focuses on protecting investment and qualification. Communities that funded school construction should see their eligible children admitted, according to his stance. He maintains that the placement system must ensure fair treatment for every qualified student.
