Gambia Methodists mark 40 years with trees, brooms

The Gambia Methodist Laymen's Association marked its 40th anniversary on Friday by launching an environmental project at the Gambia Methodist Academy in Bakau. The organization donated cleaning supplies and farming equipment to the school, and participants planted trees as part of the celebration. Dr. Ernest Aubee, the association president and academy board chairman, said the materials would advance environmental sustainability efforts at Methodist schools. Dawda Badjie of the National Environment Agency praised the community-led initiative as supporting national environmental objectives.

Most Reverend Bannie Manga, the presiding bishop of the Methodist Church in The Gambia, formally opened the project. He noted the church has planted 250,000 trees nationally with community assistance. The association, which was founded in 1985, works to strengthen the spiritual and social welfare of the church. Principal Hannah Harding thanked the group for directing anniversary activities toward benefiting students and the broader community.
