Gankabezi Gets Clean Water and Better Roads

People living in the Gankabezi community of Insiza District can finally drink clean water at home. JR Goddard Contracting Company teamed up with local officials to drill a solar-powered borehole at their business center. Next, they plan to fix the Mzingwane Dam, also called Bhopoma Dam. These projects help both families and farmers who raise animals in Matabeleland South Province.

Before these changes, women and children walked many miles just to find clean water. Ward One leader Peter Mwaza says life has completely changed since the new water pump arrived. Locals faced serious health risks from dirty water, plus farmers watched their animals suffer during dry times. The fixed dam will soon let everyone stay closer to home instead of traveling far for basic needs.

Shepard Tshuma runs the Insiza Rural District Council. He explained how important the dam repairs will be for people raising cattle. During dry seasons, animals walked extremely long paths searching for water. These improvements protect farm businesses and help grow more food. Matabeleland South often faces drought problems, making people depend on wells, dams, and small watering projects.

These upgrades match the country's National Development Strategy 1 and Vision 2030 plans to make rural areas better places to live. The government wants farms to produce more food and help communities handle changing weather patterns. Private companies like JR Goddard work alongside officials on water-saving projects across the entire region. Similar help reached other dry areas, including the Gwanda and Beitbridge districts, as the Second Republic fights against climate change's effects on country villages.
