Gauteng officials plan to share forensic investigation findings with the public after 88 government workers faced disciplinary action. The workers misused state resources and faced consequences for their actions. Provincial leaders made the announcement Wednesday during a press conference. The investigations started back in 2016 and looked at many different problems. Officials found evidence of fraud, buying irregularities and threats against people.
The Health Department took up the biggest part of the investigation results. Officials completed 47 different forensic reports about wrongdoing across the province. The Health Department accounted for 16 of those reports, more than any other government section. This department also receives the largest amount of money from the provincial budget. Health officials faced the most scrutiny during the investigation period.
Premier Panyaza Lesufi told reporters that police received 55 criminal cases from the investigation findings. He said the government will not protect anyone who breaks the law or steals public money. The premier promised to take action against corrupt workers when evidence shows wrongdoing. Government leaders want to show they are serious about fighting crime and corruption. Officials believe strong action will prevent future problems.
The provincial government has not made the reports available to the public at this time. Officials said they will release the documents after completing all necessary procedures. The reports contain detailed information about each investigation and the evidence officials found. Citizens will be able to read about what happened and how the government responded.
