Gauteng orders e-hailing apps to register under new law

Gauteng transportation authorities have directed ride-hailing platform operators to formally register their digital applications with national regulators as mandated by updated transport legislation. Provincial officials explained that compliance represents a prerequisite for obtaining operating licenses through the Gauteng Provincial Regulatory Entity while establishing safer conditions for both drivers and passengers across the region.

MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela emphasized that substantial industry expansion requires structured oversight protecting participants and consumers alike. Registration procedures require platform providers to submit documentation at the National Department of Transport offices in Pretoria before pursuing provincial authorization specifying approved service zones.

Officials indicated that formalized regulation will enable verified driver networks and vehicle standards while preventing unauthorized operations. The department plans community meetings throughout the province to guide existing operators through compliance requirements under amended National Land Transport Act provisions.
