GFL Secretary General Warns GRNMA Against Political Interference in CoS Talks

A labor leader warned Ghana's nurses union against mixing politics with workplace talks. Abraham Koomson leads the Ghana Federation of Labour and spoke on radio Saturday. He criticized the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association for threatening new strikes. The union wants better working conditions and gave government until July 2025 to act. Koomson said the timing hurts talks between workers and officials.

The nurses union issued its demand after government delayed a meeting planned for June 26. Key government workers were traveling outside Ghana for official business when the meeting was supposed to happen. Koomson called the union threat poorly timed and harmful to good relationships. He said emotions should not control important discussions about worker needs. The union leader must avoid partisan feelings that damage fair talks.

Government officials and health committee members were set to meet with union leaders. The nurses had stopped a previous nationwide strike on June 13. Union president Perpetual Ofori Ampofo wants faster action on workplace improvements. The Health Ministry and Parliament health committee were part of the planned discussions. Both groups suspended their earlier work stoppage to allow more time for talks.

Koomson stressed that worker demands deserve serious attention from government. He said union actions must stay away from political games that weaken their moral standing. Fair talks work better than threats and pressure tactics for solving workplace problems. The public loses trust when unions appear to serve political parties rather than workers. Healthcare delivery across Ghana depends on finding solutions that help both nurses and patients.
