Ghana NCA lets DStv price probe committee hit snooze on deadline

Ghana's National Communications Authority granted a seven-day extension for the committee examining DStv subscription costs. The review panel received approval from the Communication Minister after requesting additional time to complete their analysis. Committee members began their assessment on September 8 and will present final recommendations by September 29.

The panel addresses two primary objectives during their evaluation period. Officials examine DStv pricing structures within Ghana's market while developing commercially sustainable solutions. The committee also creates strategies to prevent unauthorized decoder imports from Nigeria that damage local revenue streams.

Rising concerns about pay-television affordability prompted this regulatory review. Cross-border piracy continues undermining service quality and industry profits across the region. The authority maintains its dedication to protecting consumers while ensuring fair market practices. Sustainable broadcasting industry standards remain central to regulatory oversight. Committee progress has advanced significantly despite requiring extra preparation time.
