Ghana to pay nurses' salary arrears in installments

Nurses and midwives recruited in 2024/2025 are finally getting their overdue salary arrears, with payments set to begin in April.

Government approves salary arrears payment

• Outstanding salary arrears for nurses and midwives will be paid in instalments.
• The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance negotiated the payment plan.
• The first payment will be made in April 2026, followed by three more in subsequent months.

Structured payment plan to clear the backlog

• Arrears will be paid over four months, from April to July 2026.
• Two months’ arrears will be paid in April, then three months per month after that.
• The government described the plan as responsible and sustainable.
