Ghana Youth Say Revoke Mining Tycoon License Now

A youth group wants Ghana to take away a mining permit from Godwin Armah. The Extraction Accountability Project states that Armah has destroyed the environment through poor mining practices. Charles McCarthy leads the group and accuses Armah of leaving dangerous holes across several towns. The group also wants Armah removed from the government mining board. They believe he cannot protect the environment after damaging it.

Armah runs a mining company and leads a small-scale miners association. His mining sites have open pits that threaten people and animals. The damaged areas include Nsuapemso, Kyebi Adadeatem, and Osino towns. McCarthy says Armah lost the right to mine after harming the land. The group finds it wrong that someone who ruins the environment sits on boards meant to protect it.

The youth advocates believe that this case highlights a broader issue in Ghana's mining sector. They argue that people who damage the environment face no real punishment. The group wants the government to act quickly against irresponsible miners. McCarthy warns that delayed action appears to be the government's approval of environmental damage. The organization promises to keep fighting for environmental protection.
