Gideon Moi blasts Kenya Kwanza over free education cuts after Mbadi’s budget reveal

Kanu national chairman Gideon Moi condemned government education funding reductions following Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi's parliamentary announcement. Mbadi revealed authorities would distribute only Sh16,900 per student annually rather than the previously pledged Sh22,244 amount. Budget limitations and increased student enrollment prompted these financial adjustments according to treasury officials. Secondary school administrators face operational disruptions after planning expenditures based on higher funding expectations. Several institutions have dismissed students temporarily or suspended extracurricular programs due to monetary shortages.

Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok attempted damage control by promising continued free education support during a Kilifi county school event. The official pledged to lobby Parliament for enhanced budget provisions to meet educational expenses. Moi characterized these developments as abandoning fundamental national commitments that historically benefited countless Kenyan families. The opposition leader accused the Kenya Kwanza government of prioritizing political programs over educational investments. He questioned national priorities when academic achievement becomes financially punitive for families seeking quality schooling opportunities.
