Progress is booming at the NEMBUDZIYA Open Grounds in Gokwe North. The area keeps growing faster as Zimbabwe gears up for its 45th Independence Day and Uhuru Cup. This theme, Zim @ 45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030, fits perfectly with the year's theme. More than 100,000 people plan to be part of this big moment in history.
April 17th marks the date when the First Family will throw a Children's Party at Nyamuroro High School. Later that night, an Independence Gala will light up Nembudziya Government High School. About 3,000 children will sleep at Nyamuroro High School from April 15th to 19th. Construction projects keep moving forward at every event spot.
Workers have dug more than 120 water wells across both Gokwe North and South districts, including places where events will happen. During celebrations, people will see the lighting of the Independence Flame and the famous Torch Relay. Many dance groups from Kwekwe, Gokwe, and nearby districts will show off their moves. People who love soccer can catch Simba Bhora playing against FC Platinum at the main event or watch Herentals Queens battle the Black Rhinos during the Children's Party.
Before, all these big national parties happened just in Harare. President Mnangagwa changed that by making sure different provinces take turns hosting. He believes nobody should miss out on progress. When celebrations move around the country, every region gets better because of the new projects built for the big day.
Engineer Akim Maravira from Local Government and Public Works says major construction has passed the halfway point. He tells us everybody works around the clock in Gokwe Nembudziya, preparing for the 2025 celebrations. Their teams have picked up speed, finishing about 75 percent of all work already. They plan to wrap everything up by April 10th.
Benny Majoni, who helps fix roads, says his crew keeps improving the path connecting Kadoma, Sanyati, and Nembudziya. He mentions how happy everyone feels that their home area hosts Independence Day for the first time, all thanks to the current government.
Local youth and neighbors love seeing all these changes happening. They thank the government for bringing development to everyone. Amon Ncube says they appreciate having new jobs. He points out how roads keep getting better, and the whole area looks nicer. He praises the current leadership for making sure nobody gets left behind.
Just days ago, Zanu PF Midlands Provincial party chairperson Edson Chiherenge talked about the amazing changes in Gokwe North District. He mentioned how Independence Day celebrations brought lots of improvements to both Gokwe North and South Districts. By Thursday, most projects had reached 70 percent completion as they headed toward April 18th.
Chiherenge also pointed out that the Government is building two fancy new dorms for boys and girls at Nyamuroro Secondary School, where the Children's Party happens. The celebrations will mark the start of a brand new nursing school at Nembudziya District Hospital.
