President Mnangagwa Leads 45th Independence Day in Gokwe

More than 60,000 citizens from across Zimbabwe plan to celebrate their nation's 45th year of freedom at Gokwe Nembudziya Growth Point, located in Midlands Province. President Mnangagwa will lead these April festivities, with the theme focusing on development through local empowerment toward Vision 2030 goals. The national government selected the Midlands as part of its ongoing effort to spread major events throughout different areas. According to Information Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere, teams make steady progress on needed preparations.

Workers build several lasting projects at key celebration sites. These include main gathering spaces at Gokwe North Open Grounds, evening concert facilities at Nembudziya Government High School, and youth activity areas at Nyamuroro High School. Young people gather on April 17 at Nyamuroro before the main events begin. Talented musicians perform during the evening celebration at Nembudziya Government High School when April 18, 2025, arrives.

Cabinet leaders track all preparation details through regular updates from Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe, who heads the planning committee. Government teams finished drilling 110 water wells throughout Gokwe North and South districts to ensure fresh water for everyone attending. They added three additional wells directly at celebration locations for added convenience.

Transport officials arranged 369 buses distributed equally among all provinces to transport citizens to celebration sites. During special youth activities, around 3,050 children met with the president and first lady. These student representatives arrived on April 15 at Nyamuroro High School and returned home on April 19 after experiencing national pride firsthand.

Famous freedom celebration traditions continue with the symbolic torch journey and flame-lighting ceremony. Dance groups and musical artists from nearby communities showcase cultural talents during scheduled performances. Sports fans enjoy matches between championship teams as part of the celebrations. Premier League leaders Simba Bhora and FC Platinum compete during main events, with women's teams Herentals Queens and Black Rhinos playing during youth day activities.

Cabinet members approved plans to make the Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Expo a traveling event. The next business showcase will be September 10-12, 2025, in Mutare, within Manicaland Province. Future expos will rotate through all provinces. This approach promotes each region's unique tourism potential and attracts varied investment opportunities. Officials believe rotating locations support equal development across Zimbabwe.

Minister Muswere described Zimbabwe's upcoming participation at the International Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. The global showcase runs from April through October. Preparations are near completion, with twelve official representatives ready for the six-month event. President Mnangagwa visits on July 16, 2025, designated as Zimbabwe National Day at the expo. His agenda includes meetings with potential investors and Zimbabwean citizens living in Japan.
