Easter Showers Hit Bulawayo on 45th Independence

Rain falls across Bulawayo as residents prepare for dual celebrations - Zimbabwe's 45th independence anniversary coincides with Easter weekend this year. The national holiday marks when the colonial flag came down at Rufaro Stadium, creating a free Zimbabwe after a difficult liberation struggle. Many freedom fighters lost their lives battling the colonial regime to win self-rule for the Black majority. Their sacrifice mirrors the Easter story of Christ's blood shed to bring peace.

White City Stadium hosts the main Bulawayo provincial independence event near the former home of Vice President Joshua Nkomo, known as Father Zimbabwe. Organizers planned a procession featuring drum majorettes starting from D Square near Mpopoma High School along Nketa Drive. The wet weather might force the parade to be canceled. Forecasts predict mostly cloudy conditions throughout the day with a slight chance of occasional rain showers.
