Gokwe women crush hunger with veggie hustle

Government borehole programs transformed Duriro village in Gokwe Chireya from drought-stricken land into a productive agricultural space. More than 60 women operate a two-hectare nutrition garden that generates food and income for their families. The project enables residents to grow vegetables previously unavailable in their remote location.

Women harvest surplus crops for sale while supplying local clinics and prisons with fresh produce. Agriculture Extension Specialist Miriam Madziva plans to expand cultivation and increase production capacity. The initiative aims to develop agri-industrial processing facilities for local vegetable beneficiation.

Legislator Torerai Moyo praised the Presidential Borehole Sinking Programme for delivering equal opportunities to rural communities. The water access initiative promotes sustainable development and healthy lifestyles across arid regions nationwide.
