Government asks insurers to pass GST relief on to policyholders

Federal authorities instructed insurance firms to launch comprehensive publicity drives regarding recent GST policy changes. Secretary M. Nagaraju from the Department of Financial Services organized discussions with regulatory officials and company executives from both public and private sectors. The gathering addressed implementation strategies for tax exemptions approved during the 56th GST Council session. Insurance premiums for individual life and health coverage previously carried an 18 percent tax burden. These policies will receive complete tax relief under revised regulations.

Companies must transfer complete savings directly to current and future customers in accordance with official directives. Health insurance represents 16 percent of industry revenue and will experience reduced premium costs. The policy shift supports the government's objectives for broader healthcare access across all economic segments. Rating agencies predict increased market penetration as affordability barriers are reduced. Standalone health insurers may face margin pressures while delivering full customer benefits from the tax elimination.
