Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti made a direct appeal to the Luo community Saturday, urging their support for Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's 2027 presidential bid. Speaking at a burial ceremony in Ng'iya, Alego, Siaya County, Ndeti highlighted the Kamba community's fifteen-year backing of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
"The Kamba people have stood behind Raila for fifteen years, during which he secured more votes in certain constituencies than in parts of Nyanza," Ndeti said, addressing mourners at the event hosted by Siaya Governor James Orengo, a longtime Odinga ally.
Ndeti emphasized her journey in supporting Odinga's political aspirations. "I started campaigning for Raila as a young woman, and here I stand today, mature and experienced," she said. "We ask you to stand with Kalonzo because we have remained faithful to you, and reciprocal loyalty matters."
Governor Orengo responded by advocating for a broader focus on national issues. "Kalonzo remains a friend, but this conversation needs careful timing," he said. "The current political landscape includes multiple aspirants like Kioni backing Matiang'i, and Wamalwa expressing his ambitions."
Orengo stressed the importance of addressing fundamental challenges. "Raila leads a national movement. Our priority must be resolving constitutional, structural, and electoral problems to prevent future complications," he stated.
Former presidential candidate Jimi Wanjigi of the Safina Party added his perspective, calling for unity based on shared national concerns rather than ethnic considerations. "Political alliances should address public issues, particularly economic hardships, moving beyond tribal inclusivity," Wanjigi said at the gathering.
