Great Eastern FX has debuted the Transformer Boost pedal

Transformer Boost puts a vintage General Electric 2N1175 germanium transistor at the center of Great Eastern FX Co.’s newest Obsolete Devices pedal. It gives players as much as 18dB of gain while adding harmonic color, light compression, saturation, and altered transients.

Only 100 pedals are being made because the NOS transistor supply is tiny. Wima and Würth Elektronik capacitors join Dale resistors and a Triad Magnetics transformer inside the circuit. That germanium stage feeds the transformer directly, which adds more saturation as the signal gets pushed.

Controls stay dead simple. One large knob sets level, while Low Cut trims bass when higher settings drive an amp harder. Leaving more low end in also pushes the transistor and transformer further.

Founder David Greeves built the design around those vintage parts, choosing them for their moderate gain, low noise, and controlled behavior. The Transformer Boost sells for £249 with VAT included.
