Crate Entertainment promised fans a new Grim Dawn expansion called Fangs of Asterkarn several years back. The studio originally thought they could launch the game during 2024 but missed that deadline. Developers have shared fresh details about when players might actually see the expansion. The team believes there's a chance for a late 2025 release but warns fans about possible delays. Spring or early summer 2026 could become the actual launch window if problems arise.
This expansion will dwarf previous add-ons for the hack-and-slash action game. Fangs of Asterkarn covers about 3.55 square kilometers of new territory. That makes it roughly 110 percent larger than the Ashes of Malmouth expansion. The main city called Kurnhold spreads across four different zones. Previous expansions only used one and a half zones for their quest hubs.
Players will discover 47 main story missions and side quests scattered throughout the new areas. The development team expects that number to grow as they finish creating content. Enemies await players at every turn with 54 fresh boss fights planned. Eight of these encounters feature powerful Nemesis opponents. Advanced combat systems will push the aging game engine harder than ever before.
Loot hunters can expect over 380 unique items from defeated enemies. Monster drops will add another 120 special pieces of gear. Post-launch content plans feature two roguelike dungeons with even more bosses and treasure. Xbox One players will receive the expansion at the same time as PC gamers. The studio successfully brought the main game to Xbox consoles back in December 2021.
