Harare man Panashe Mukura butchers a boy, fakes a search party

A brutal killer faces murder charges after savagely attacking a young boy in a horrific crime that shocked an entire neighborhood. Panashe Mukura appeared in court Tuesday where magistrate Ruth Moyo remanded the 31-year-old man into custody. The defendant must seek bail at the High Court after prosecutors laid out the gruesome details of what happened to 12-year-old Keith Jon. Police say Mukura lured the innocent victim away from his grandfather's home on July 5 with promises of sleeping at his mother's house nearby. The child had been staying with his grandfather while his mother was away.

Mukura waited until nighttime before launching his deadly attack on the sleeping boy. He grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed Keith in the neck before cutting off his private parts. The killer then poked the victim's nose with a comb until he bled profusely. Mukura dragged the body outside and buried it halfway in the garden behind the house. He covered up his tracks and went to bed like nothing had happened.

The next morning brought a twisted performance from the murderer. Mukura rushed to the grandfather's house claiming Keith had disappeared during the night. He joined the frantic search party that included worried neighbors and family members. Blood stains on the doorstep and Mukura's clothes gave him away when searchers found Keith's body in the shallow grave.
