Harban protesters hold Karakoram Highway hostage over dam cash

Residents from Harban village maintain their seventh day of protests on the Karakoram Highway. Land owners demand fair payment for property seized during the Diamer-Basha Dam construction project. The demonstration blocks the primary connection between Gilgit-Baltistan and mainland Pakistan.

Essential supplies cannot reach affected areas while commercial vehicles remain stationary. WAPDA officials confirm three billion rupees remains unpaid to affected families. Authorities have released two billion rupees but promise additional funds after completing paperwork requirements.

Alternative transportation through Babusar Pass charges excessive fees for travelers. Food costs have increased significantly due to supply chain disruptions. Local business operators report substantial financial losses from the ongoing situation.

Community leaders criticize provincial authorities for failing to address the dispute promptly. Demonstrators refuse to end their action until receiving complete compensation. Regional stakeholders urge government intervention to restore normal highway operations and resolve the payment disagreement.
