Heavy rain causes four deaths and forces 7,000 evacuations in South Korea

South Korea endures its fourth consecutive day of severe rainfall that has claimed four lives and displaced over 7,000 residents. Emergency officials report two fatalities in Seosan within South Chungcheong Province and two missing persons in Gwangju. Forecasters predict an additional 250 millimeters of precipitation may fall throughout Saturday. Authorities have ordered evacuations for 7,029 people from 4,995 households, with 2,800 individuals remaining displaced. A landslide in Sancheong County has left three people missing, with one presumed dead.

The storms have devastated infrastructure across multiple provinces. Rainfall measurements reached extreme levels overnight, with Yeongheung Island recording 98.5 millimeters within a single hour. Seosan has received 558.6 millimeters since Wednesday, representing 45 percent of its annual average. Officials document 729 cases of public infrastructure damage and 1,014 instances of private property destruction. The deluge has flooded 388 roads, triggered 133 landslides, and damaged 57 river facilities across the nation.
