Hello Heart hires Hinge Health GC David Wood

Hello Heart just snatched a legal heavyweight to steer their ship through regulatory waters, immediately hiring David Wood as general counsel. He takes the baton from Dwight Moxie after leaving Hinge Health, where he ran legal operations for the online therapy provider. The attorney brings two decades of experience with half that time spent grinding inside high-growth digital startups.

The Menlo Park business builds tech for tracking cardiovascular vitals and sits on a war chest of 138 million dollars from investors like Khosla and IVP. CEO Maayan Cohen hyped the recruitment claiming Wood possesses the operational grit needed to handle strict industry rules. She highlighted his specific skills in managing artificial intelligence laws and data privacy, which helped scale his previous employer.

Wood logged six years at his last gig, climbing from vice president to top lawyer only recently in August 2024. Before that, he headed the department at Amino following a twelve-year run as a partner at Perkins Coie. His career originally kicked off at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.

The new executive stated he felt drawn to the mission of fighting heart disease while cutting medical costs across the country. This appointment lands amidst a wave of similar moves as biotech firms scramble for legal talent. Sudo Biosciences recently appointed Paul Bavier while PepGen tapped Joseph Vittiglio and Tonix Pharmaceuticals brought in Irina Ishak to manage their compliance headaches.
