Hindu lynching in Bangladesh sparks Delhi protests

Dude, a religious killing has everyone rattled. The Indian government officially condemned the lynching of a Hindu man in Bangladesh, named Dipu Chandra Das, who was killed in the Mymensingh district. A spokesperson for India's foreign ministry, Randhir Jaiswal, called the persistent attacks on minorities there a serious issue. He specifically mentioned Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists as targets of extremist violence. This statement came after hundreds of people, led by the Hindu nationalist group Vishva Hindu Parishad or VHP, protested outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.

The ministry spokesperson tried to downplay the protest's scale. He said only about twenty to twenty-five young people showed up for a short time. He claimed they just chanted slogans about the killing and asked for minority protection in Bangladesh. He insisted nobody tried to breach the fence or threaten the embassy's security. Local police reportedly broke up the gathering quickly. The Indian government affirmed its duty to keep foreign missions safe under international rules, referencing the Vienna Convention.

This whole mess is putting stress on relations between India and Bangladesh. The killing is seen as part of a bigger pattern of violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh, which has gotten worse since a political change there. India's ruling party and its allied groups often talk about defending Hindus worldwide. Because of that, the protest caused diplomatic friction. Authorities in Bangladesh recently called in India's top diplomat to complain about security at their embassy in India. The Indian foreign ministry dismissed earlier media reports from Dhaka about threats to Bangladeshi diplomats as totally false propaganda.
