Husband demands $45,000 damages from wife's lover

Man Seeks $45,000 in Adultery Damages from Wife's Lover.

A Zimbabwe man has filed a lawsuit demanding $45,000 in damages from an environmental official who had an affair with his wife. Vincent Chiwawa named Alfos Bukhosibethu Nyathi, an Environment Management Agency employee in Plumtree, as the defendant.

The case emerged after Chiwawa's wife, Christian Kagande, admitted to the affair in 2024. She revealed the relationship spanned from 2020 to 2024, during which time Chiwawa worked to arrange her move to the United Kingdom.

The court granted Chiwawa a default judgment on January 8 when Nyathi failed to respond to the summons. The couple married in Plumtree on March 26, 2021, under the Marriage Act. They have two children, ages 14 and 11.

Kagande confessed the details to her pastor, who urged her to tell her husband. She admitted to unprotected encounters with Nyathi before and after Chiwawa's December 2023 move to the UK. A family friend confirmed these admissions.

The children reported their mother often left home at night, claiming to attend church meetings. Court documents state the affair affected their school performance as they faced ridicule from neighbors.

The scandal spread through Plumtree, a small town, damaging Chiwawa's reputation among peers and colleagues. Media coverage in H Metro amplified the situation.

Legal documents claim Nyathi's actions damaged the marriage and family bonds Chiwawa had built. The papers state the affair harmed the couple's intimate relationship, with Kagande becoming distant and unresponsive to her husband's affection.

The marriage remains legally intact. Chiwawa seeks compensation for personal dignity damages and loss of marital companionship.
